Classroom Calming Videos - from Brenda
I made this list of calming videos for a student/teacher at Trinity. I thought I would share in case anyone is looking for a quick video to help calm your classroom.  :)

  • Whole class - “go noodle” choose from the calm/focus category

  • Whole class  - “mindful minute” (work on class doing a minute of quiet) this could simply be having kids close their eyes, tell them to think of a place that makes them feel calm and happy - close their eyes (set a timer for one minute) - could start with 30 seconds and move up to a minute.

Tap In/Tap Out - from Kristen
Our Houlton Staff is very dedicated and hard working but everyone needs a minute once in a while.  Tap In Tap Out is a judgement free option for teachers to get that break - whether you need to step out of the class to talk with a student who is struggling, need a break for yourself to reset or just breathe, or whatever you need to be able to do your job. I know in this time of COVID it seems hard to find a way to take a break. Our staff can help out in another classroom as long as we are masked and maintain our physical distance of 6 feet - following these guidelines should keep us in the clear in that department. Here is a video of how it is working in one school:  Tap in Tap Out Video
This system can be used informally or formally.
  • Informally: If you see a teacher/counselor/principal in the hallway you can ask them if they can cover so you can tap out for a few minutes.
  • Formally - you can sign up with times you are available during the day on the spreadsheet I will be sending out so people can add their names to if they are willing to be a tap out person.  You can always text Kristen. and if she is available she will come (or send someone).
Additionally, as we are so full in our building, you may use my office to take a break in.  Even if I am not the person doing your tap out, I am willing to step out of my office to give you a minute to yourself. Additionally if you need someone to listen I will gladly do that as well.

You are doing amazing things and working harder than you ever have so remember it is okay to need a break and take care of you.
Kristen
