We are looking forward to important training coming up on Friday, January 24th. Here's an overview of the day's schedule:
Elementary staff will continue the Trauma Sensitive Schools work we began on October 7th. Houlton will be partnering with River Crest and will meet at the HIgh School from 8:00-9:30 in the Fish Bowl (near the front office and auditorium), before the 10:00 presentation at the high school. We intentionally planned to meet at the high school to minimize travel time for Houlton staff. We will focus on Trauma Sensitive Values: Safety, Trustworthiness, Collaboration, Choice, Empowerment. In addition, we will continue the conversation about shifting our perspective to a trauma sensitive schools approach.
Houlton and River Crest staff are invited (optional) to walk on the HS track from 9:30-9:50, as an opportunity for self-care. Wear comfortable shoes if interested!
As part of our school based mental health grant, we are excited to welcome Dr. John Klem, professor from UW Stout, as our speaker for the district wide inservice on January 24th. All staff are welcome to attend (support staff will be paid for their time). Dr. Klem will present to MS/HS from 7:30-9:30 and the elementary staff from 10-12 at the HS auditorium. He will provide an overview of what trauma and adverse childhood experiences are, and how these events impact development. He will specifically talk about how these experiences influence our emotional, cognitive, and behavioral development. He will also link this information to specific mental health disorders and how these can manifest in the schools. He will also be sharing strategies school personnel can use to support individual students.
For the rest of the day:
12:00-1:00 - lunch
1:00-2:30 - Staff Meeting (staff survey results)
2:30-4:00 - work on SLO (Sue will be at a 4K meeting)
Please let me know if you have any questions about the day!
Sue
