Guiding Reading - Revitalize!

Next Step Forward in Guided Reading
Jan Richardson Training

Some things I've heard from the recent training...
  • The guided reading training was very intense and left some teachers wanting more time to dig in and some feeling overwhelmed.
  • Carolynn (trainer) spoke often that the teachers are the "first best teacher" for all of their students.  This traning is mean to augment the great things already happening.
  • Teachers need time to look at their students, and time to dig into further learning and planning with the Jan Richardson information while it is fresh
  • We have a lot of data (MAP, F & P, Jan Richardson, formative assessments).  We need to prioritize and select what we need to best guide our instruction, which data is most up to date, and which will allow us to be most responsive
  • It sounds like there were many questions about schedules and time - principals will be meeting with Carolynn on Tuesday to go over the feedback from teachers and to plan next steps.
I have cancelled Wednesday's staff meeting to give you a little bit of extra planning time.  Information is coming soon for upcoming Roll Thrus (half days to include data and planning time) - checking on dates the first part of November.

Thank you for your work with your students, and for your continued time and attention to learning and implementing best practices.  I hope you found last week's training helpful, and that you were able to walk away with some new information and helpful tips.

Have a great week -
Sue
