Our focus this year on maximizing learning and student growth in reading through the implementation of the Jan Richardson model for guided reading has been supported with some fantastic training with Carolyn. Implementation of the training is being supported through focused work in PLCs and also through coaching.
Our SMART Team set goals related to the guided reading training with the knowledge that focus on our learning will improve student learning and growth in reading, and how coaching supports that learning. Our SMART Goal action plan states that 100% classroom teachers will utilize a follow-up coaching opportunity to Jan Richardson each trimester with a focus on word work/vocabulary.
Our focus on coaching comes from the research that shows how impactful coaching in the classroom is when implementing new skills from training, with the table below showing the impact coaching has on the transfer to practice. Thank you for working with Lori to find opportunities for coaching. I am grateful for the support we are able to offer our teachers during this implementation of new learning!
